the summer solstice has come and gone, although it has been feeling like summer here for months. today the thermometer keeps climbing closer to triple digits and we are all doing what we can to keep cool and keep the crankiness at bay. i just spent the morning looking at the photography of the very talented harper smith. the images bring about so many memories and feelings about sweet summertime. sparks from fireworks in the night sky, dipping into creek waters, short shorts, bikinis, and bike rides through dusk's embrace. that has inspired this playlist. i'm taking this playlist out under the willow tree in the backyard with my book and some sun tea. won't you join me?

ReplyDeleteWooooondeerrfullll, dahling! I had never heard that Sean Hayes song before and he is, like, totally one of my favorites DUDE! 33 Fool is my life song ;) Thanks for making my music day- I adore you.

DeleteHi Mary, just wanted to say that i've been listening to your show off and on for the past couple of years, and you are one of the best DJs on KDNK. You cover the indie side of music better than anyone else there, and you do it just as well as a good DJ on KEXP in Seattle. So props for that. I am a sub DJ at KDNK, and I have a decent knowledge of the indie music that is out there, but you give me a run for me money. When I am given total freedom to do what I want, I try to do a show similar to yours (I feel we could use more of that there, don't you?), but I do have interest in other areas, so I sub well for many shows that want me to cover the genres that they cover. I just always try to spin some new artists that write songs in those classic genres, country for instance. It seems that the newest music style to be taken in by the indie darlings is R&B and soul. Anyway keep up the good work, know that people are listening and do want to hear more of this side :)

thanks mike for this lovely shout-out! i appreciate it so much, because as you may know, sometimes it feels like you are alone in that little studio without anyone listening. it's great to get words of encouragement. i'm heading seattle way soon! i've heard endless goodness about KEXP. thanks for listening. i'll let you know if i'm ever looking for a sub for my show. peace.
